What we do in church and why

We welcome newcomers, whether Anglican, Christian or other. Our services follow the Book of Common Prayer of the Anglican Church of Canada, supplemented by materials drawn from the Anglican and the Western Catholic traditions. The version of the Bible used in our services is the English Standard Version, with the King James Version used at Evensong.

While it might look ritual-bound, everything we do in the service has some symbolic meaning, and engages our senses in the expression of faith.

When you arrive, you will receive a leaflet with the readings, prayers and hymns for the day. In the pew you will find a hymn book, the Book of Common Prayer, and The Order of the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass (dark blue Mass booklet) that contains the standard liturgy of the Mass and is used with the leaflet of the day.

Please know that you are welcome to participate as little or as much as you wish. You will find that participants do different things like kneeling or standing at different times, and you can follow in ways that feel comfortable to you. It is also fine to simply observe. All baptized Christians, regardless of denomination, are welcome to receive Holy Communion.
